Bamboo in Autumn

Bamboo creations victoria have hedge bamboo on special in autumn
Hedge bamboo on special in Autumn
Autumn is here and now is the time to get some bamboo in the garden before winter sets in. Now is a great time to plant bamboo. Bamboo loves the sun and it loves a bit of water. Clumping bamboo will generally start to shoot late summer or early autumn here in Victoria. You should see many new culms start appearing from now until winter. Over winter they will probably quieten down a little but people still have seen new growth over the winter period.

To enhance the new culms and keep it looking healthy and green, feed them with a high Nitrogen fertiliser. Drown the bamboo with water once you have fertilised. Keep watering the plant and do not let it dry out. Another way to keep your bamboo looking great is to spray the foliage with Charlie Carp or Seasol about every 2 weeks.

To kick Autumn off with a bang we have Hedge bamboo on sale. These normally retail for $45 each but we have them for $29. Please be quick as this price cannot last.

Hedge bamboo is a clumping type of bamboo with a maximum height of about 4 metres. It really bushes out making it a great bamboo for hedging. For more details visit our Hedge bamboo web page:

Give us a call now to order some of our Hedge Bamboo. You can come to the nursery to pick it up or we can deliver for free to one of our up and coming events (check out our website for all the events that we are attending over the next little while). Contact us on 1300 654 454.

black bamboo supplied by bamboo creations victoria, in stock now to purchase
Black Bamboo by Bamboo Creations Victoria
Phyllostachys Nigra or commonly known as black bamboo is named because of its unique black culms. The culms start green and then turn black with age and exposure to the sun. They have a small leaf and can be cut back to form any size that you need. The more you cut this beautiful bamboo back, the thicker it becomes. It has a culm diameter of about 8cm and can grow to about 6 metres (in the ground).

Black bamboo can be planted in pots or in planter boxes. If planted in a pot or planter, the height of the bamboo will be restricted so it may not get to its full height. However, it will still look great and be able to hide unwanted views. Black bamboo in pots or planters can add that special dash of colour to any courtyard or balcony.

Black bamboo is a running type of bamboo. This means that runners spread under the ground with culms suddenly appearing away from the original plant. If planted in the ground, you will need a root barrier that is about knee high in the ground. This is to contain the bamboo exactly where you want it and to give you the effect that you are after.

This plant loves water, mulch and a little fertiliser from time to time.  It prefers a little shade but can be planted in sun. Sometimes the sun will cause the leaves to become brown on the ends. If this occurs then just give it plenty of water. After a little time new foliage will appear.

If you are worried about where to plant this stunning bamboo then give us a call (1300 654 454) as we would love to help you out. We currently stock black bamboo in many different sizes. Prices start from $45 and can range up to $350 depending on the size that you are after.

Bamboo Creations attending Geelong Waterfront market
Bamboo Creations Victoria have added a new market to their list. We are heading down to Geelong to attend the Geelong waterfront makers and growers market. This is very exciting for us as Geelong is a beautiful part of Victoria and we are honored to be part of this market.

The market is held on the 3rd Mar 2019 from 10am - 3pm. It is situated on the waterfront in the Steampacket Gardens. This is found on Eastern Beach road.

This market is run by the Geelong rotary club so you know that money raised by the market will be put back into local community projects.

Come for a drive to Geelong and say Hi to us at Bamboo Creations Victoria. Bring all your bamboo questions (like: I have building next door that I would love to block out, what would be the best bamboo for that situation ...). We grow all our own bamboo so we know what works in what situations. See you at Geelong .

Gracilis and Goldstripe

Gracilis and Goldstripe bamboo from bamboo creations victoria

Choosing the right bamboo for the right area can sometimes be difficult. There are different types for different situations. Clumping can be great for blocking out unwanted views or buildings. You have some that look great in a pot used in small courtyards as ornaments. Some, however do not suit pots and some of the larger bamboo do not suit smaller gardens. We have over 15 years’ experience in growing bamboo in Victoria that will suit Victorian conditions. We also know what works well in other conditions. We are only a phone call away to help you choose the best bamboo for your requirements.

An example of a great bamboo is Gracilis. This is one of our most popular bamboo due to its use as a wind break or screen. This can block out a neighbouring building very quickly. It is a clumping bamboo meaning that it will all the culms will clump together to form a dense green screen. It will reach approximately 6-8m in height meaning that you can block out any unwanted views. If it does take over a little, it can have a good trim to make the perfect shape and height to suit your requirements.

This does not suit all situations. It does not like small rectangular pots. It can grow quite high very quickly so if you do not need the height then we may be able to suggest a different type of Bamboo.  It responds quite well to a good trim a couple of times a year. If you are looking at a low maintenance bamboo that does not grow as high then give us a call and we can help you out.

An example of a smaller bamboo is one called Gold Stripe.  This grows to a maximum height of about 3 metres which would be great for smaller gardens. This can even be planted in pots to be used as an ornamental plant.

It is important to use the right bamboo in the right situation. It is also important to make sure the bamboo is suited for your conditions and requirements. We propagate and grow bamboo in Victoria so we know what works and what does not. We are more than happy to help you out with your Bamboo decisions. Our website has a lot of information about the different bamboo plants. Have a look at our summary page:

Another reason to call is that we have Bamboo on special from time to time. We may have the one that you are looking for at a special price. We are there to help, come and say hi to us at our nursery or any other event that we attend. Happy Bambooing. Bamboo Creations Nursery: 1300 654 454.
