State Rose and Garden show and Coloured Bamboo

Bamboo creations at the State Rose and Garden show. Different colored bamboo canes.
Different coloured bamboo canes
The State Rose and Garden show is approaching very quickly. Only just over a week away. With the weather improving now is the time to get out into the garden and get things ready for Christmas. The State Rose and Garden show would be a great event to get all the ideas flowing for your own garden. The show has a program of different guest speakers from Vasili Kanidiadis (SBS plant and produce guru) to Jane Edmanson (3AW and gardening Australia) and several others.

This show is on Sat 19th and Sun 20th November from 10am - 4pm. According to the website entry is FREE (another bonus of the event).

Bamboo is such a versatile plant. It is fast growing and can clump together to form a great screen or wind break. You can trim or hedge your bamboo to suit the situation or the garden that it is planted in. The picture above shows bamboo that has been hedged to provide a green screen that can block neighbouring buildings. Once you are inspired by the different coloured roses at the show then come and talk to us about the different coloured bamboo.  We would love to assist you with your bamboo requirements.

Bamboo Creations at our events including Henty and Mt Macedon
This is the tent that we take to all the different markets that we attend.  Take a good look as we are going to a couple of big markets over the next week. This weekend you will see the tent at the Mt Macedon Plant Lovers Fair and next Tues-Thurs we are heading to N.S.W. to attend the Henty Field Days.

The Mt Macedon Plant Lover Fair is held at the historic Bolobek property situated at 370 Mt Macedon Rd, Mt Macedon. The market is open 10am - 4pm on both Sat and Sun. This event is called the Plant Lovers fair for a couple of reasons: firstly the market is made up of lots of different plant growers and retails (including us at Bamboo Creations Victoria), secondly this is held at a magnificent property with spectacular gardens to enjoy.

The Henty Machinery Field Days is another huge event needing 3 days to ensure you see it all and have the opportunity to get all the information you need. This is open from 8am -5pm each day.

Big September

September is a big month for Bamboo Creations Victoria.  Firstly it is the start of Spring (yeah). You can spend your spare hours out in the garden in (hopefully) much better weather. Plants love spring and so do we.  We are attending a couple of big events in September to get our wonderful bamboo out to many more people.

Firstly the Mt Macedon Plant Lovers Fair is on from the 17th to the 18th of September (from 10am to 4pm). This is a two day event held at the beautiful Bolobok estate. According to the Mt Macedon website, this property is listed on Victorian Heritage Register and is noted for its magnificent garden. This is a double bonus for garden lovers. Come and view the many different stall holders and also admire the surrounds.  You can find Bolobok at 370 Mt Macedon Road in Macedon, 3440.

The second event is the Henty Machinery Field Days. This event is on from the 20th to the 22nd of September from 8am to 5pm. A massive 3 day event featuring more that 800 exhibitors. You should be able to find what ever you are after at an event like this. The Henty Field Days event is held at the Cookardinia Road in Henty, NSW 2658.

We have more details and links on our website if you would like more information.

Bamboo Creations at Akoonah Park, Berwick market

Bamboo Creations Victoria are going to berwick
Akoonah Park Berwick market
Bamboo Creations Victoria are back at Berwick this weekend attending the Akoonah Park market.  You can find Akoonah park on the corner of Princess Hwy and Beaconsfield-Emerald Road. This is open from 8am - 1:30pm.  As you can see from the picture on the right there some of the market is undercover. This is very handy if the weather is not that friendly.  Come along and visit us at Akoonah Park.

Winter is still a good time to plant Bamboo. Bamboo does like a moist soil so let mother nature do the watering for you. Get them settled in your garden prior to the hotter summer weather. A cover of mulch will assist the bamboo survive the frosty mornings. Also, a good helping of loose soil or potting mix will assist with the water drainage so the bamboo can decide on how much water it needs.

Winter has started and we are having a big market weekend.  Saturday 4th June Bamboo Creations Victoria is back up to Murrabit near Swan Hill on the mighty Murrey River.  We went up there just recently and had a great time so we are back this month.

This is a monthly market held on the 1st Saturday of each month with over 200 stalls.  There are plenty of different stalls from food, produce, clothes, shoes and of course plants.

Winter is still a good time to plant bamboo as the new plants need to be watered. Let mother nature help with the watering (unless you find watering a soothing timeout).
To celebrate the start of Winter we are having a sale and taking 20% of all bamboo. Grab a plant while this special is on. We can take orders over the phone (Ph: 1300 654 454) and even deliver free to one of our many markets (view our website for a full list of the events that we attend).

Be prepared for the cooler months with these high quality t-shirts. Long Sleeve T-Shirts: www.bamboo-plants.com.au/bamboo-products/womens-bamboo-long-sleeve-tshirt.php

As these t-shirts are made from bamboo fibre all the same anti-bacterial properties apply. Tests have shown that bacteria on bamboo fibre decreases over time to help reduce the body odour from these products. So when the products are worn against the skin they adsorb sweat and then the anti-bacterial properties of the fibre kick in to keep the bacteria in check.

Bamboo customer pictures for our gallery

Bamboo Creations Victoria love customer bamboo pictures
At Bamboo Creations Victoria we like things real.  Instead of having a few professionally taken photographs we like to see how Bamboo is used in actual gardens.  This is why we have included a "Customer Pics" section in our photo gallery.  We love to see what people have done with bamboo and how it enhances different  gardens. These types of picture are terrific to generate ideas for other people wanting to use bamboo in their own gardens.

So grab your camera, phone or any other device, take a few photos and send them in to us.  We would love to see them.

Watering bamboo tips for Hotter days

Bamboo creations recommend watering systems on hot days
Bamboo Watering Timer System

The days over summer can become quite hot and your Bamboo may need a little bit of extra care during the hotter days.  Here are a few tips from Bamboo Creations Victoria on how to care for your Bamboo during the hotter summer days.

Watering of Bamboo is very important as Bamboo likes being moist, especially on the extremely hot days. If the bamboo gets too dry then the leaves will curl down and brown off. The culms will start to discolour from their nice green to a golden colour.

To ensure you give your bamboo the best chance in life we recommend regular watering. In the morning and at night in the extreme hot weather. They do not need lots of water in 1 big hit.  It is normally better to water smaller amounts on a regular basis.  The picture on the above shows an example of a watering systems.  These are not that expensive and can give your plants a quick burst at regular intervals during the day.

Depending on the size of your bamboo you may like to try the following watering suggestions:

  •  Small bamboo 1 min every 5 hours
  •  Medium bamboo 1 min every 4 hours
  •  Large Bamboo 2 min every 4 hours
  •  Extra Large 5 min every 4 hours

Our nursery does this from 7am to 7pm. To reduce the amount of water being used, why not try utilising some of your grey water.

This watering regime is normally used just for the summer months to avoid your bamboo drying out on the hot days.
