Seymour Alternative Farming Expo

Bamboo Creations Victoria at Seymour alternative farming expo in February 2015
Bamboo Creations Victoria attending Seymour Expo
Yes, The Seymour Alternative Farming expo is here again. It is a massive event that needs 3 days for people to see everything.  It is running from the 20th until the 22nd of February 2015 (that is this weekend starting on Friday). This runs from 9am until 5pm daily. It is held in Kings Park on Tallarook Street in Seymour.

Seymour is a lovely drive up the Hume Highway or a more scenic route is up through Yea on the Goulburn Valley Highway.

According to the Seymour Alternative Farming expo website, this event has more than 450 exhibitors. This event also has a lecture series so you can learn a few things while looking at and purchasing the latest products. Come up and say hello, we would love to see you at Seymour. Our website has all the dates of this and other events with a link to each of the individual events websites.

Did you know?

We will be taking to Seymour a few bamboo that can be used for timber and some that are edible.  Yes that is correct you can eat some types of bamboo.

Tall Bamboo with think canes are used for timber.  This is very handy due to the fast growing nature of bamboo.  You can quickly grow very large bamboo canes that can be used to build with.  You can use the timber for building fences or other structures.  We have seen overseas that some people even use bamboo for scaffolding up the side of buildings for building maintenance.  An example is the pictures in our website photo gallery (Photos from our Visits). In Bali a house has been built using only Bamboo.

Clever uses of Nepalese Blue

Clever use of Nepalese Blue in house design
Nepalese Blue Bamboo as a green wall
People are using Bamboo in really amazing and innovative ways.  The picture on the right shows how people in Bendigo have brought the outside in.  They have created a glass panel looking out to a lovely green screen outside (clever as this will be green without needing painting). These pictures also show the growth rate of this stunning bamboo as these were planted in 2013. So in no time, all you will be able to see from the inside is green.

Nepalese Blue bamboo is the common name for Himalayacalamus Porcatus Bamboo.  This is a clumping type of bamboo with a maximum height of about 4 metres.  This bamboo gets its common name from the fact that the canes have a fantastic blue colour (refer to picture below).

Gisborne Market this sunday.

Bamboo creations victoria attending gisbourne market event
Bamboo Creations Victoria at Gisborne Market
The Gisborne market is back on this Sunday and we will be attending with our van full of interesting bamboo plants. The Gisborne market is held along the service roads of Aitken and Hamilton Streets in Howey Reserve in Gisborne. This runs from 9am - 2pm so come and say Hi.

The list of events that we attend do change from time to time so it is best if you keep an eye on this blog or visit our website for a full list of our events.  An example is a new festival that we will be attending, the Horticultural and Gardening Festival in October this year (to be held at the Melbourne Showgrounds). More about this one later.

Just a quick word on prices on our website.  You may have noticed that our plant pages do not have prices on them.  This has been done on purpose as prices can change on a regular basis. Prices are determined by many factors including availability and size. We grow in Melbourne for Melbourne's climate. We propagate our bamboo from good quality mother stock to ensure vigorous, healthy plants. For current prices and availability it is always a good idea to give us a call on 1300 654 454.

Bambusa Multiplex cv. or Alphonse Karr Bamboo

Alphonse Karr bamboo or botanical name of Bambusa Multiplex cv.  More and more people are starting to see the benefit of planting bamboo in their gardens.  The photos to the right are of a display home in Melbourne. The builders could see the selling point of starting to hide the neighbours building using Alphonse Karr bamboo.  Through the window will be a magnificent green feature wall instead of having to look at the paling fence with a building over the top.

Like most bamboo, Alphonse Karr is a fast growing clumping type of bamboo.  It can form a green screen in about 2 years to hide unwanted views. The clumping properties of this bamboo means that it can also be a sound barrier as well as a screening plant.  It can be pruned to any shape so you can keep the height and also keep it well manicured.  For more information about this bamboo please visit: www.bamboo-plants.com.au/bamboo-products/alphonse-karr-bamboo.php.

Last Gisborne market for the year

Christmas is fast approaching and this is the last Gisborne market for the year. Before the real rush starts, now is the time to organise your garden and planting prior to the family and friends that are due to arrive.  If you do not have time to tidy the garden, apply mulch, plant your new plants or feed the existing garden then we now have a garden maintenance service.  We cater for all types of gardens both big and small.  Lets have a chat about how we can assist with your garden preparation ready for Christmas.  Give us a call on 1300 654 454.

Also, with Christmas fast approaching we are taking orders now so we can have the plants ready for you.  We do not want you to miss out so give us a call to arrange everything you need.

As you can see by the photo on the right, our stock is prepared for the Victorian environment.  This time of year the bamboo is lush and green and looks fantastic in our nursery, so will look even better in your own garden.

Say goodbye to next door building - Gracilis Bamboo in action

The picture on the right is a very clever use of the Gracilis Bamboo Plant.  This has already started to cover the 2 storey building next door.  The building will soon be blocked leaving a beautiful green screen.  This particular plant was planted in Aug 2013, these photos were taken in Aug 2014, so it has only been a year to start the blocking process.

Bambusa Textilis var. Gracilis or commonly known as Slender Weavers bamboo is a fast growing clumping type of bamboo.
Gracilis bamboo has a maximum height of approximately 8 metres which will be perfect for this situation to hide the next door building.  The lower leaves of this bamboo have been trimmed to keep the base slim and the top bushy for where it is needed the most.

We thank this customer for sending us these fantastic shots.  We have also put them up in our gallery on our website so have a good look how these plants have been used.
