Bamboo for the month
Bambusa multiplex cv. Alphonse Karr (Alphonse Karr Bamboo) would have to be one of the fastest growing medium bamboo.
We planted these in December 2007 and as you can see by the latest shots it is a lush dense living screen.
It is a very hardy bamboo able to handle temperatures to minus -12⁰
green leaves. Last winter the area was totally under water for four weeks and it didn't seem to faze the bamboo at all.
Having said that bamboo does not like wet feet for long periods.
This area was heavy clay soil so some preparation was needed. When planting any bamboo always dig twice the pot size and back fill with organic soil.
